hello spring

Spring

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn. ~Hal Borland

Here I am NINE months later still trying to keep this little blog alive. I've been busy busy! Moving to the country has proven to be a lot more challenging than I expected. Between the huge deer hitting my car on Christmas eve morning and our water well caving in on our pump on Valentine's Day it's been trying to say the least. I'm not quitting though. We will get through it all.
In other news, I'm going to be FORTY years old in less than two weeks!
Bring it on.

wild summer

What a wild summer it has been so far! I've moved to a new home in the country. Raised monarch butterflies and released them. Watched fawns playing from my office window. Seen the most
lightning bugs I've ever seen at once in my front yard.
I'm loving this living in the country thing. Hope everyone is having a fun summer!

With the move to the country this summer coming up and my recent butterfly gardening class, I've become obsessed with learning everything I can about gardening. I already have my butterfly garden design planned out for next spring. I can't seem to stay away from the botantical gardens and gardening stores these days either. I have the bug! Let's just hope I'll develop a healthy green thumb too. I took these at Compton Gardens today.

The last photos from summer. I took these at our local botanical garden. I wanted to see the
new living wall (top photo) and it was amazing!
The flower that really caught my eye was that gorgeous camelot cream foxglove. I mean wow...
I must plant some of my own someday. I hear they attract fairies! ;)

The sunlight speaks. And it's voice is a bird: It glitters half-guessed half seen half-heard.
Above the flower bed. Over the lawn ...A flashing dip and it is gone.
And all it lends to the eye is this - A sunbeam giving the air a kiss.

One early morning in June, I was lucky to get to share a rain soaked poppy patch with the bees. I sat
for hours watching them buzz all around me happily working away. Something about the gentle sound of their buzzing from flower to flower is so calming to me.

I hope to someday have my own flower gardens and maybe even a hive or two of bees. I want to make my property pollinator friendly. Lots of flowers and sweets for the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. I will give them what they want and I will get their company in return.

Sadly, the sweet little pollinators are in trouble. We can all help by creating more habitats and NOT using any pesticides! Please check out the links below for more info on saving our pollinators.

If you want to watch a beautiful nature documentary about our pollinators check out Wings of Life.
It's STUNNING and narrated by Meryl Streep.

at lula's

We celebrated Lula's third birthday a few weeks ago. Lula got her first camera and we got to go on a little photo walk together around her home. I loved watching her taking photos. She was so careful framing her shots and excited to show me what she captured. It was a nice spring day in the country spent with friends.

This lilac bush belongs to my elderly neighbors, but I like to think it's mine. I'm not sure they
love it like I do. Every spring I check daily to see if it is blossoming, so I can take in it's sweet aroma.
It's by far my favorite smell on this beautiful earth. I hope to plant a few lilac bushes of my own
when we move to the country someday. Any tips on planting and caring for them?

waiting for spring

Just when I thought spring was here to stay it turned snowy winter again. And I got a cold.
That's how it goes. We can't predict the seasons. I'm glad to be feeling better though. I found some film shots of springy goodness that I thought I would share. The first shot was taken with my old nikon film camera with kodak portra and the last two with my pentax k1000.

I've been thinking about shooting more film. I miss it. I've been researching medium format cameras and I think I've decided on the camera I've always wanted. My Dream camera.
The Hasselblad. Not sure which one yet?? The 500cm or the 501? Whatever I get I can't wait to hold it in my hands!

Do you have a dream camera?

These photos were taken at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks.
I work just down the road from them so when there is a cloudy day in the forecast I always bring
my camera with me to work and head over there on my lunch break.
It's a peaceful place to take a break for sure.
